Eagle hunting has been practised for thousands of years by the Kazakh. Just before the beginning of the winter hunting season, golden eagle hunters from all over Bayan Ulgii gather to celebrate the Golden Eagle Festival. During this festival not only the Eagle’s mettle and the hunter’s skills are tested but also the strong bond between them. Over 100 eagle hunters and their glorious eagles participate each year.


The festival is held in the heart of the Altai Mountains. This region is home to snow capped mountains, glacial valley, forests, rivers and lakes where they create a majestic setting. It is one of the last untouched wilderness on the earth.


Immerse yourself in the unique way of life of the Kazakh nomadic culture and their ancient tradition that has been preserved in this remarkable and isolated part of the world.


First part of the trip will bring you to the magnificent Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. This region is home to snow-capped mountains, glacial valleys, forests, rivers, and lakes, where they create a majestic setting.


The name “Altai” means “Golden Mountain’ in Mongolian. It is one of the last untouched wildernesses on Earth. This large mountain system is located in the extreme southwest of Mongolia and has borders with China and Russia. Altai Tavan Bogd (Holy Five Peaks) has five high peaks, the highest peak at 4374 meters, that are connected with each other by three large glaciers. The largest glacier is the Potanin Glacier, which is 17 km long.

Golden Eagle Hunting Festival

Last part of the trip takes you to Bayan-Ulgii province where you immerse yourself in a completely different atmosphere: the famous Golden eagle festival! This festival is one of the traditional cultural heritages. During the two days festival, you have the chance to get thousands of amazing images of trained eagles and educate yourself more about the Eagle hunter’s tradition.

Day 1: Arrival in UB – City Tour

  • Mongolian Spiritual Tours team will pick you up from Ulaanbaatar International Airport and bring you to the hotel. Enjoy some rest at the hotel and in the afternoon (if desired) can discover the city such as the monastery with our tour guides.
  • Accommodation: Hotel (twin room, a supplement is charged for single rooms. Only a few single rooms are available, please let us know on time.)

Day 2: Flight to Bayan Ulgii - drive to Altai tavan Bogd

  • Early in the morning we will fly to Bayan Ulgii where our drivers will greet us.
  • Bayan Ulgii is located in the extreme west of Mongolia. It is only 40 km away from Kazakhstan and is Mongolia’s only province with Muslim majority. Most inhabitants are Kazakh and speaks Kazakh as their mother tongue and Mongolian as their second language.

Day 3: Hiking the Altai mountains and Ceremony at the White River

  • Altai Tavan Bogd means the Holy Five Peaks. It has five high peaks that are connected to each other by three large glaciers. The highest peak is 4374 meters high.

Day 4: Horse riding, Faleo Age of Petroglyphs - visiting Nomadic family

  • Between the high peaks of Altai you can find the Mongolians ancient petroglyphs. These unique rock paintings are inscribed on UNESCO world heritage list. We can see about 10.000 paintings on the rocks that scatter the southern part of the white river, ”Tsagaan Gol”. This important collection of pictograms dates back from Paleolithic to Bronze Age.

Day 5: Visiting Kazakh and Tuvan nomadic family

  • A day in the life of the Kazakh nomads.

Day 6: Ceremony at the Sacred Mountain Shiveet Khairkhan

  • The sacred mountain Shiveet is surrounded by archaeological monuments extending in time from the Bronze Age through the Turkic Period. The character of the high valley it centers and the extended physical context including rivers and glaciated mountains call to mind a sacred diagram involving a mountainous landscape, directionality, and color symbolism.

Day 7: Drive back to Ulgii city for the Eagle Festival
